WHAT WE ARE LEARNING AT BEN MILAM ELEMENTARY

COMPUTER LAB

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!!!

I'm looking forward to a fun and learning year in the Computer Lab as we "Aim For Success"!!!

Please check out the "Learn At Home Websites" on the BME website.

We will be learning about the rules and procedures in the Computer Lab. The students will begin to learn about the parts of a computer and how to take care of them.

As we learn how to use the computer, we will start working on a program called Imagination Station (I Station). It is web-based. It is a comprehensive reading and intervention program that delivers individualized instruction. The program automatically puts the students where they should be by having them take short assessments on-line. This enables the students to work at their own pace at the level that is best for them. The program is designed to build mastery in the Five Essential Reading Areas: Phonological and Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency and Comprehension.

We will use computer terminology and learn how to start and exit programs. As they work their way through I Station, they will learn correct hand positions for keyboarding.

Pre K will be working on letters and the sounds that they make. They will be working on one letter at a time.
Kindergarten will be working on beginning sounds, letter recognition and sounds, blending phonemes, and vocabulary.
First Grade will be working on letter recognition and sound fluency, phoneme blending, spelling, vocabulary, timed reading with meaning, and comprehension.
Second Grade will be working on I Station until the beginning of the third six weeks. Then they will begin to work on an online standards mastery and test preparation program called Study Island. The student may also work on this at home by going to the Cameron ISD website and going to Ben Milam and clicking on the Learn At Home Websites. The Study Island link can be found on that page.

Our goal in the Computer Lab is to have every student become a successful reader and become familiar with using a computer.
